MUSICAL DIRECTOR - 2022 & 2023

Maureen Cameron

Maureen began her passion for music with the East Kilbride Borough Silver Band and Clydebank Borough Band. By a young age, she had won the Scottish Championships with the CWS Glasgow Band and competed at the European Championships.

Maureen attended Salford College, where she studied under Professor David King, Dr. Roy Newsome, and Elgar Howarth and was one of the last students to work with the legendary Harry Mortimer OBE.

Maureen was a member of the legendary Foden’s Band (England) and maintains active ties with the band. She has won most major Brass Band titles in Europe and Australia as either a player or conductor and is currently a playing member with Sydney City Brass.

Whilst recognised as an outstanding cornet player and musician, it is her commitment and passion for the education of young musicians and work with community music that is inspiring. Following being awarded “BBC, Teacher of the Year, Secondary School” in 2003, 2004 saw Maureen move to Australia to accept posts as the founding Head of Music at St Andrew’s Catholic College and Musical Director of Cairns Brass.

Since her move to Australia, Maureen has gone on to win numerous accolades for her commitment to music, most recently: Cairns Regional Council, International Women’s Day Scholarship 2018, Cairns Businesswomen Award (Finalist) Volunteer of the Year 2019, Cairns RSL International Women’s Day Award 2020.
